The Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 59,405 in 1970 to 179,684 in 2010. That was an increase of 202.5 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 109 in 1970 to 28,867 in 2010. That was an increase of 26383.5 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.2 percent to 16.1 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 154.3 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) added the most population in the first period, while that shifted to B-D in the two most recent periods.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NIM became the main source of added population in the second period.
